How to use Ask AQA
There are six simple steps.
- Select your role: Teacher, Examiner/Moderator or Exams Officer.
- Scan the questions on the page to see if yours is already there.
- Type a key word into the search box and select the search button or try the categories.
- Relevant questions will then appear.
- If you want to know more select the 'Ask a question' tab.
- Type in your question and your details and we'll get back to you.

Accessing Ask AQA
An Ask AQA link is at the top of every page.
To see the most appropriate questions, select the group relevant to you. For example, for information on examiner administration, select Examiners and Moderators.
- Select the blue text to open and read the full question and answer.
- Teachers, Examiners/Moderators and Exams Officers can request tailored answers.
- The top 10 most popular FAQs are displayed.
Search for the information you want using the Search by Keyword field.
Searching
Our FAQ library is comprehensive so here are a few pointers.
- To search for specific information use the Search by Keyword field or the Categories.
- For the best results use keywords (eg fees, results, re-marks) or phrases not full sentences.
- Don't to use jargon or slang.
- Use recognised abbreviations, eg AQA, e-AQA etc.
- Use Category and/or Subjects drop down menus to narrow your search and reduce the number of answers.
- If you can't find an answer, broaden your search by selecting ‘All’ from both the Category and Subject drop down menus.
- Don't use wildcard search characters.
‘Search Tips’ gives you a more detailed search option (above the Search by Keyword field).
Asking a question
If you can't find the answer in our FAQs and you are a Teacher, Exams Officer or Examiner/Moderator, you can send us a question. Register for an account before you start your question.
To submit a question:
- Select the category for your role on the Ask AQA home page.
- Select the Ask a Question tab.
- Enter your e-mail address in the appropriate box.
- Select a Category and (if using the teacher's portal) a Subject in the drop down menus.
- Type your question in the and my question is... field. Include as much detail as you can to help us to provide a full answer.
- Select continue.
- If you are not already registered with Ask AQA you'll see the registration page:
- Complete the registration page and select Create your Ask AQA Account
- You'll return to the Ask a Question tab where you type your question.
- More FAQs based on your detailed question appear.
- 42% of questions are answered at this point.
- If these aren't helpful, select Finish Submitting Question.
- You will see that your question has been sent and get an e-mail saying we have received your question.
You will also get an e-mail when your question has been answered.
Registering to use Ask AQA
Before asking a question you need to register, both to protect your information and for general site security.
- Select the appropriate category for your role from the Ask AQA homepage .
- Select the My stuff tab.
- At the bottom of the page select Create a new Ask AQA account.
- Complete all the fields, those marked * are mandatory.
- Provide an e-mail address and password.
- Your e-mail address is your login – it is case sensitive.
- You can enter alternative e-mail addresses if you want our response to be sent to more than one mailbox. (Note: that you cannot login using one of your alternate e-mail addresses).
Finish registering by selecting Create your Ask AQA Account.
Registering to receive new specifications and updates
Teachers can register to receive:
- printed copies of new specifications and support materials
- electronic updates as our new qualifications develop.
To register your interest:
- You need an Ask AQA account (see Registering to use Ask AQA)
- Select Teachers on the Ask AQA home page
- Select Related links: 'AQA's new specifications - Request print copies and register your interest (in the middle of the page)
- Enter your e-mail address and password
- Select the qualification you are interested in
- Tick the boxes for the subjects that you are interested in.
- Specifications are sent to your centre.
- Updates are e-mailed to you when they are released.
Managing your account
Manage your account online with the My stuff tab.
You can change your profile (personal details), password and view your questions, answers and notifications.
- To access your My stuff account select the My Stuff tab and then enter your e-mail address and password
- Your My Stuff has four sub-tabs explained below:
Profile – Your registration details are here
- Teachers and Exams Officers can change your details any time
- Examiners details are held centrally, so changes must be requested by creating a question on Ask AQA
- Don't forget to update your profile if your e-mail address changes
Notifications – If you want to be notified when an FAQ is updated it is recorded here
- When an FAQs is updated you will get an e-mail
- You can see the updated FAQ from here
Questions – Here you can see any questions you have asked and our answers.
You can also:
- See the status of each question (unresolved, solved, updated)
- Examiners details are held centrally, so changes must be requested by creating a question on Ask AQA
- Change the order in which your questions are displayed
- Search your questions to find information quickly.
