From the outset I was made to feel like a valued professional.

New examiners and moderators receive full training and support in their new roles.
For example, as a new examiner you:
- receive distance-learning materials, which show you how to apply the mark scheme when marking candidates' scripts, and a self-assessment exercise to test your understanding
- may be invited to a training day where the Principal Examiner outlines principles and criteria for marking in detail
- participate in training to standardise your marking with that of the Principal Examiner. The training includes an explanation of the question paper and mark scheme, followed by marking exercises and feedback to help you mark correctly and consistently.
- are assigned a Team Leader who mentors you throughout the marking process
- receive training to support the use of our online standardisation and electronic marking applications.
The first year of examining is undoubtedly the most difficult as there is so much to assimilate in a very short space of time, but it's interesting and you get a great deal of support from experienced examiners.
