Mathematics for post-16s – have your say

The Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, has asked the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) to advise on the development of a course for post-16 students who do not take A-level Maths. More information can be found on the ACME website, together with an online questionnaire. The deadline for responses is 23 March 2012.


New specifications accredited

The new Foundation and Higher Level FSMQ specifications are accredited for first teaching from September 2011, with first exams in Summer 2012. The specifications are now available for you to view.

They will replace outgoing Foundation and Intermediate Level specifications (last exams in Summer 2011).

A series of introductory meetings were held in the latter half of the autumn term that provided:

  • an introduction to the structure of the specifications, the teaching content and the assessment
  • an overview of the changes that have been made from the current and pilot specifications
  • guidance on course planning and delivery

Funding for post-19 learners

The Skills Funding Agency has confirmed that post-19 learners enrolled for FSMQ qualifications before 31 December 2010 will continue to be funded to the end of their programme so that they can complete their qualification.

New starts from 31 December 2010 will not be funded. For queries contact the Maths team.
