Entries for Unit 2 and Unit 5

  • Please remember that the final entry for each candidate must correspond to the brief (option) which is being submitted, as follows:

MUS2A or MUS5A for Brief A
MUS2B or MUS5B for Brief B
MUS2C or MUS5C for Brief C

Candidates must not be entered for more than one option.

Teacher Standardisation Meetings

  • Dates for coursework standardisation meetings are generally published on the AQA Website in September.
  • Meetings are usually held between October and January and are free of charge.
  • If you were unable to attend a meeting and would like a copy of recent materials please contact us on 01483 477828 or e-mail music@aqa.org.uk.

Teachers' Notes

The Teacher's Notes for the written examinations (MUSC1 and MUSC4) will be available in Secure Key Materials via e-AQA from 1 May (under A level Music/Question Papers and Mark Schemes/June 2012).

New items in the Teacher Resource Bank

MUSC2 Brief A Summaries, in chart form, offering guidance on what examiners are looking for in Brief A Questions 1 and 2 have been provided in the Teacher Resource Bank.

MUSC5 Frequently Asked Questions have been added to the Teacher Resource Bank.


New set works

For the June 2012 examination and until further notice the AS set work will be:

  • Beethoven - Symphony No 1, movements 1 and 2

An analysis of these movements has been provided in the Teacher Resource Bank.

For A2 there will be new set works from 2013:
For the June 2013 examination and until further notice the set works for A2 will be:

  • Elgar - Symphony No 1

    or
  • Shostakovich - Symphony No 5

Correction to the printed Examination of Long Answer guidance (v1.0)

For MUSC1 and MUSC4, the new numbering system and new style of answer book is in Sections B and C only. Section A is not affected by the changes to question numbering and answer book style.
