New-look question papers and how our examiners will mark long answers on screen

For exams with separate question papers and answer books, there will be:

If you teach any components/units affected by these changes, read about the changes to question papers and how examiners will mark long answers.

A few question papers (mainly legacy GCSE in their last year of operation), are exempt from changes to question numbering but continue to work with the JCQ separate answer book.

These subjects that currently use separate question papers and answer books will become combined question paper answer books in June 2010.


An exemplar script and commentary completed by the Principal Examiner is now available for each externally assessed unit (IT01, IT09 and IT10).

To request a copy of these exemplar materials e-mail us. Please include your name, centre number and centre address and we will despatch these materials to you on a CD-ROM.


The A-level Applied ICT Teachers' Guide Version 3.2

The A-level Applied ICT Teachers' Guide was amended in September 2009. Updates have been made to the following units: IT01, IT04, IT05, IT06, IT08, IT09, IT11, IT12, IT13, IT14 and IT15. Version 3.2 can be downloaded from the Teacher Resource Bank.


The summer assessment window for the externally assessed A-level Applied ICT units (IT01, IT09 and IT10) has changed for summer 2009 onwards. The assessments will be conducted between 15 March to 5 June 2009.

The January assessment window will remain between 1 November and 21 January.

Coursework standardisation meetings

  • Dates for coursework standardisation meetings are generally published on the AQA Website in September.
  • Meetings are usually held between October and January and are free of charge.
  • Centres are also usually notified in writing.
  • If you are teaching this specification for the first time, please contact us to ensure that you are invited.

Centres do not have to use this data and may wish to create their own data source or download data from another source.
