This specification is designed to:

  • develop candidates’ critical thinking skills

  • inspire the ability to interpret, evaluate and comment

  • allow candidates to demonstrate the ability to use scientific methodology in the context of psychology

AS outline

At AS, candidates develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the core topics of modern psychology. The topic areas have been chosen for their accessibility and popularity in previous specifications:

  • PSYB1 – Introducing Psychology
  • PSYB2 – Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Individual Differences.

A2 outline

At A2, the specification retains the popular child development options and offers candidates various applied options. The debates section provides the opportunity for extension work and high-level discussion:

  • PSYB3 – Child Development and Applied Options
  • PSYB4 – Approaches, Debates and Methods in Psychology.
